The promoter wanted something retro but slightly off — a poster that made people stop and look twice. I found a photograph of a drummer from the 60s and removed his head. I'm not sure where the idea came from, but it was irresistible. An illustrated style, a suitable palette, some wear and tear and texture to bring it together. One of my favourites.
Cuckoo
For a music event promoter in Manchester, the brief called for patterns that could be swapped out monthly for each new poster. I wanted to nod to the name and settled on a skeletal bird — its outline formed entirely from a pattern that could be changed each time a new poster was needed. Nobody noticed it was the skeleton of a budgie with a nose-job.
